Aspetto generale General appearance

L'elmetto si presenta in buone condizioni, un combat da paura :). L'elmetto di fabbrica ha il classico colore verde 1939, a cui venne applicata una vernice camo a due colori: marrone all'esterno e giallo in una striscia centrale, un bel camo due colori. Come spesso accadeva in piena Campagna d'Africa, queste configurazioni troppo vistose venivano "spente" applicando verniciature superficiali. Questo elmetto venne ricoperto due volte con due diverse mani, di granulosità diversa, di vernice khaki, un classico grigio/giallo chiaro desertico utilizzato anche durante la Campagna d'Italia dai soldati provenienti dal Nord Africa e, maggiormente, dalla zona della Siria, Palestina, Iraq. Presenta una rete mimetica da mezzo pollice con evidenti riparazioni d'epoca e il cartellino con i dati del soldato, utilizzato verosimilmente per la spedizione dei suoi oggetti verso casa. Provenienza UK. The helmet is in good condition, a really impressive combat piece :). The factory finish is the classic 1939 green, over which a two-colour camouflage paint was applied: brown on the outside and yellow in a central band, a very nice two-colour camo. As often happened during the African Campaign, these overly conspicuous configurations were "toned down" by applying superficial coats of paint. This helmet was covered twice with two different khaki coats, with different textures, in a classic light desert grey/yellow shade, also used during the Italian Campaign by soldiers coming from North Africa and, even more, from the Syria, Palestine and Iraq area. It retains a half-inch camouflage net with evident period repairs and the tag with the soldier's details, probably used for sending his belongings back home. UK provenance.

Fregio Badge

Il fregio del Royal Army Service Corps, RASC, risulta leggermente danneggiato da scrostature e coperto dalle due mani di vernice khaki light in tonalità gialle che coprono la vernice camo due colori marrone e giallo. Guscio Shell

Il marchio di fabbrica è visibile solo parzialmente, ma dal colore di fabbrica e dalla tipologia dei ganci è comunque riconducibile al 1939. The maker's mark is only partially visible, but the factory colour and the type of chinstrap lugs still make it attributable to 1939.

Ganci sottogola Chinstrap lugs

I ganci per il sottogola sono del modello MKII e non presentano né marchi né data. The chinstrap lugs are the MKII model and show neither markings nor date.

Vite Bolt

La vite cupolare è un modello MKI, primo tipo, risulta perfettamente consona con il resto dell'elmetto e intoccata. The dome bolt is a first type MKI model; it is perfectly consistent with the rest of the helmet and untouched.

Sottogola Chinstrap

Modello MKIII, in uso dalla primavera del 1942, venne sicuramente sostituito dal soldato. Risulta in patina con il resto dell'elmetto. MKIII model, in use from spring 1942; it was certainly replaced by the soldier. It shows a patina consistent with the rest of the helmet.

Come accennato, l'elmetto presenta sotto alle vernici camo sabbia uno strato a due colori marrone e giallo molto interessante e non comune. Dove è saltata la vernice superiore, si notano i dettagli di questa vernice due colori. As mentioned, beneath the sand-coloured camouflage coats the helmet shows a very interesting and uncommon two-colour brown and yellow layer. Where the upper paint has flaked off, the details of this two-colour finish can be seen.

L'elmetto riporta all'interno una targhetta con il nome del proprietario A.W. Leaman, sergente RASC, matricola T6584258. Dal sito Forces War Records risulta menzionato nella gazzetta del 13/01/1944 in forza nel Middle East, including Egypt, East Africa, Western Desert, Sudan, Greece, Crete, Syria & Tobruk: The KING has been graciously pleased to approve that the following be Mentioned in recognition of gallant and distinguished services in the Middle East. Inside the helmet there is a tag bearing the owner's name, A.W. Leaman, RASC sergeant, service number T6584258. According to Forces War Records, he was mentioned in the Gazette on 13/01/1944 while serving in the Middle East, including Egypt, East Africa, Western Desert, Sudan, Greece, Crete, Syria & Tobruk: The KING has been graciously pleased to approve that the following be Mentioned in recognition of gallant and distinguished services in the Middle East.

L'elmetto era accompagnato da una serie di oggetti personali del soldato che però non sono riuscito ad inserire in collezione... The helmet was accompanied by a series of the soldier's personal belongings, which unfortunately I was not able to add to the collection...
